Delivering Christmas Packages to Needy Children
During the Christmas season of 1935, when he was one of the most well-known sports heroes in Cleveland, Jesse Owens delivered Christmas packages to needy children. The packages were donated by Alonzo Wright, who owned a gas station at which Owens worked during the period 1933-1936. In this photo, Owens is shown giving one of the packages to Robert Shepherd who lived at 9506 Cedar Avenue. | Source: Cleveland Memory Project, Cleveland State University Special Collections
